So in the midst of this so called never ending transitional period , another change has occurred. Apparently TVM and VOM have been christened again.Looks like our Mugabe Junior has been scarred so deeply by everything that had happened in the past 30 years that changing the name of everything in sight seems therapeutic as well as a short cut to true 'democracy'. I just hope he doesn't decide to rechristen everybody who was born in the past 30 years. It would be quite a challenge to erase the scent of the glory years of Maldives. No matter how hard he tries. Change whatever the hell that you wanna change but I shall always remember those years fondly and with great pride.
After the name changing incident I encountered a minor blow yet again, and that too while watching the channel formally known as TVM. Youth TV was showcasing their ramadaan related shows. And I didn't know whether I should cry or laugh, but I did know that I was in shock. A young and dynamic producer was describing his new show which is about promoting original dhivehi music and you will think yes that makes sense, but the part which didn't make sense and the part which made me switch off the tv was the background music of the show. It wasn't original, it wasn't Maldivian either. It was Salman Ahmed's guitar solo from his album Azaadi. I won't watch that show to see anything original.
